How many straws does it take to break the camel's back?
The savvy answer is it is actually the last straw... or one straw too many.
Which may be true… but if there was truly enough straw to snap a camel's strong back… he probably wasn’t doing great before that last straw was dropped.
Most of the world still see’s endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDC’s) as pieces of straw.
They seem so small and insignificant… and you can consume them in small amounts without noticing any instant negative effects.
“Unless it’s snapping the camel's back, it’s safe to ignore it… Right?”
Instant Gratification… Or Instant Pain?
In our society, we seem to only respond to instant gratification…
Or instant pain.
If something is said to be good for us... we want to feel instant rejuvenation after using it or eating it.
If we don’t feel different after the first day or week… we figure it must not be worth it then.
“Stupid vegetables… I ate a salad today and still feel bad… They're just an expensive waste of time!”
And with negatives, if we don’t get an instant pain response we tend to think it's no big deal.
If people were instantly punched in the face every time they took a bite of something sweet, the world would probably have less obesity.
But that is not the case… Instead we say,
“It’s just one cookie… it’s not going to make a difference!”
And truthfully it isn’t…
It’s the 500 other foods that are high in sugar we consume that cumulatively add up in our systems which leads to extra pounds… but the one cookie was not at fault, it was the multiple “one cookie” decisions over time.
Even though the initial result of weight gain wasn’t painful… the cumulative result of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, knee problems, and losing the mobility to do what we love… IS Painful!
We don’t think about “that” pain when we are eating the candy, because it’s in the future.. It’s abstract.. It doesn’t seem relevant… and it's hard to picture.
The difference between successful healthy people, and unsuccessful unhealthy people, is their ability to see how the small things they do in the present add up in the future… good or bad.
As I stated earlier, when people, brands, or even science look at EDC’s. They view them as straws. Because individually, you may not notice them.
But consider this:
Studies show people who eat restaurant foods several times a week have much higher phthalate levels than people who cook at home. (Source)
“But they are small enough amounts… it doesn’t matter.”
Many, if not most of the pesticides used on plant based foods are scientifically known endocrine disruptors, even at very low doses. (Source)
“The brands claim it’s small amounts… it won’t hurt you.”
We use toothpaste that contains EDC’s such as fluoride, triclosan, BPA, phthalates, tea tree oil, and others… all shown to be strong endocrine disruptors.
“It’s just toothpaste… sure I use it twice a day but that isn’t going to make a difference.”
But what about:
- Soaps
- Lotions
- Shampoo
- Facial products
- Sunscreen
- Mouthwash
- Laundry detergent and fabric softeners
- Nonstick pans
- Plastic bottles
- Food can liners
All the chemicals from these can be ingested or sink into the skin if you are in contact with them. The chemicals found in these items not only disrupt your hormones, but many are also known to cause cancer, diabetes, heart disease, strokes and more. (Source)
The point is…
Your body is being bombarded with numerous EDC’s every day. While you can’t eliminate exposure to all of them, you can do things to lessen the amounts you come in contact with.
The Small Choices Matter
Blood tests confirm people who do certain things differently such as:
- Eating from home
- Eating organic
- Avoiding processed foods
- Watching what pans they cook with and and what they store food in
- Watching what products they use on their skin and in their mouth
- Watching what is in their water to avoid things like lead and other heavy metals
These people have much less EDC’s in their blood than people who aren’t proactively trying to avoid them.
Are any products 100% EDC free?
Probably not… because there are so many different forms of EDC’s, it is almost impossible to avoid all of them.
But you can avoid the worst of them, and limit your exposure as much as you can.
So when people make fun of our ads saying..
“Your saying toothpaste causes all of my problems!”
NO, that is NOT what we are saying…
Since the introduction of EDC’s across many products we use everyday, testosterone levels have been declining.
Toothpaste is just one of the strongest exposures because you put it in your mouth multiple times a day… every day of the year.
Or others say, “I have been using it for a week and don’t notice a difference.”
Let’s be clear… our products are not supplements or testosterone replacement therapy.
It’s an addition by subtraction. By using our toothpaste you’re removing chemicals that are working against your body. But toothpaste is just one piece of the puzzle.
That is why we want to create a product line that covers everything you use on your body.
The goal is to build a brand you can feel safe reaching for because you know we are doing the best we can to look out for your health.
Our toothpaste is not a fix-all. But neither is eating a salad, or doing a single workout, or learning a single business technique.
Everything is cumulative, either for good or for bad.
You may not notice the results after 1 attempt…
Or 50 attempts… but you keep at it!
And you add other good habits until your life starts to reflect the small choices you have been making.
You don't build Rome in a day... you build it one brick at a time.
What choices are you making?
Are you living with the cumulative effects of bad choices right now?
There is good news! You don’t need to change everything today, you just need to identify a few steps you can make to take you in the right direction. Change happens one step at a time.
Or maybe you're reaping the benefits of years of creating good habits…
Another trait of successful people is even in success, they are always looking for ways to improve. If you aren’t growing… you're dying.
You will reap what you sow… There is just no getting around it.
This post may not feel easy to swallow, but we are all about creating Legends here.
One thing about being a Legend is being able to take responsibility for the choices we make... and improving over time.
Our toothpaste is a great first step that requires no extra labor or time from you… but can make a difference.
We hope you will take that step, and that it will be the first step of many for you on your new journey. We want to partner with you to help you reach your destination by creating safe products you can trust.
As always, we got your back,
Joe, Kyle, & Clark,
Your Legendary Men’s Care team
